The first LBC tournament of the year will be a "melee" style event. In other words, you will be randomly paired with someone when you check in and will play with them for the entire tournament. Be sure to sign up soon to reserve your spot.
Play will be at the Browning hangar in the Mueller development in Austin, Texas.
Registration starts at 8:30AM and games will start promptly at 9:00AM. Please be on time.
The entry fee is $10 dollars. You can pay with cash or check when you check in the morning of the tournament.
There is a limit of 32 players. To reserve your spot you need to contact Gary Ragan. You can either talk to him in person on the terrain, or use the button below to send him an email.
After the first two games there will be a break for a pot luck lunch. Please bring something to contribute that is not likely to spread COVID.
We will be using the new system invented by Kathy Ragan called Pétanque for the Planet that features reusable glasses, and plates etc. to reduce plastic waste. Check it out!
There will be three qualifier games. Two before lunch and one after. After those games everyone will continue to play either in the concours division (top eight teams) or the consolante division (remaining eight teams).
At this point it will be single elimination. Winners will go on to play in the semi-final and final rounds. Finalists to play a total of six games.
Winners in both the concours and consolante divisions will get medals and prizes!

As most of you know, our good friend, and excellent pétanque player from San Antonio, Michel Costa passed away recently.
Unfortunately, we have a scheduling conflict with Michel's Celebration of Life near San Antonio and the LBC tournament both on April 10.
Sadly, this will prevent a lot of people from being able to go to San Antonio, but on the other hand, many of his good friends will be together here in Austin, playing pétanque and remembering Michel.
The NRPC is pleased to announce our Spring Petanque Tournament on Sunday March 20 at 9 AM.
It will be a Carousel format where you change partners each game, Players will be paired as pointers and shooters to balance out the teams.
We will all play 5 games and the winners will be the top 6 players with the best record. Winners will receive medals.
The cost for the event will be $10 per player. Proceeds from the event will go to pay for some much needed court renovations.
Click the button below to register and tell us your preference as a pointer or shooter.
Payment is due at check-in the day of the event.
Registration is limited to 32 players, with priority given to NRPC members, so register soon!
We will have a pot luck lunch break around 1 PM, so please bring a dish to share. The club will provide water for the event.
These carousel events are a great way to get to know & play with fellow club mates. Novices are paired as pointers with more experienced players as shooters.
If you are an experienced player, please consider being a shooter, as there is always a need.
This kind of tournament is a great way to get that shooting experience! Having a good balance of shooters & pointers makes the tournament more fun.
We hope you will join us for NRPC's first tournament in over 2 years!

Greetings Members—
The Nelson Ranch Petanque Club would like you (and family) to join us for our version of the French celebration, La Chandeleur. On Sunday, February 13 at 2 PM, at the Nelson Ranch pavilion (905 Nelson Ranch Road), we will be serving French crepes, both sweet and savory as a celebration of longer and warmer days to come. Sounds like a good reason for us to celebrate. We ask that all members bring to share either a sweet or savory filling for the crepes. This annual event is a joint effort of the NRPC, the Legation Boules Club of Austin, and the Alliance Française chapter in Austin.
We expect that pickup Petanque games will start between 11 AM and noon, and then break for crepes at 2 PM. Pickup games can continue after that break. Hopefully we will have a very nice day for La Chandeleur. Stay tuned though. If the weather forecast of that weekend doesn’t look promising, we will probably postpone until the following Sunday, February 20. In past years, we have had some really nice weather for the fete, and hopefully we will this year.
In appreciation of all the support you have given us, we would like you to come have crepes and some wine with us.
If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me.
Thanks and take care—
Gary Ragan

NRPC wants to wish everyone a Happy New Year as we begin the 2022 petanque season. We are hoping to get back to a somewhat normal event schedule this year, and we hope you will join us for all the petanque fun!
The first order of business in this new year is membership renewals. If you haven’t yet renewed your club membership with NRPC, you have until the end of January to do so. After Jan. 31, a late fee of $5.00 will be added. It will also delay you receiving your FPUSA license. You will need this license to participate in any FPUSA events, including regionals, which will hopefully be returning to our area in the coming year.
The renewal cost is $25.00. You can give cash to any of our club officers when you see them on the courts: Gary, Kathy, Ed V. or Christophe.
If you want to pay by check, please make it out to our Treasurer: Ed Vaissiere.
If you want to pay your dues by mailing a check (made out to Ed), please send to:
Kathy Ragan
10503 Brannon Cove
Austin, Texas 78759
Mail by Jan. 20th so we get it on time!
If you are indeed renewing, I ask that we please try to get all the renewals & new applications finished by the Jan. 31 deadline. Dealing with the current FPUSA system is a bit of a hassle, so when I have to go back later and register more members, it can create problems. Thanks in advance for your cooperation. I know the board is excited about the upcoming petanque season in Austin. Hopefully, so are all of you!
If you have any questions about your renewal, you can contact me at: christophe@austin.rr.com
Cheers—
Christophe (Secretary NRPC)
