Terry Plemons Celebration – October 12, 2019

Thanks to Kelly Brownlee for taking all these pictures!
Report from Ed Priest:
-- Continued reworking of the back gate entrance by the parking lot. It is really taking shape now.
-- On the Legation itself windows and door have been removed at the back and the old concrete and wooden ramp have been removed. The rotten timbers have been removed from the front porch.
-- The new steps at the front and side of the building are shaping up with the forms for the foundation footing.
-- Work is continuing on the entrance to the carriage house. Interior work has also started which includes the restroom.
-- The parking lot is defiantly showing the most head way.
-- The old brick walkways are being removed making way for the new ADA approved ones.
-- They are trying to save what grass they can during this hot summer with portable sprinklers since the irrigation system is totally dismantled.
It is good to see how the work is progressing at this time.

The people renovating the French Legation are asking for our input. By using the survey below we can have an influence on the future activities there!
My great and loving father passed away yesterday at 4:44 PM on his 78th and a half birthday. He was a good man and my best friend... he really loved Petanque and the friendships that he had with all you guys. Keep his memory close to you and he will always be on the court along side us.

Terry will be greatly missed by his real family and his pétanque family.
LBC supported the Nelson Ranch Pétanque Club on June 23 in a benefit Carousel tournament to help raise funds to send junior member Amadeus Alejandro to the 17thJunior Triplets World Pétanque Championships to be held in November in Phnom Peng, Cambodia. Amadeus’s team mates are Noah Sonet from California and Parker Edwards from North Carolina. The team will be representing the USA against youngsters from all over the world. We are very proud of Amadeus and to have a representative from our area in the Junior World Championships.
The benefit was supported by players and contributors from clubs in Austin, San Antonio and Dallas. The money raised will help fund his trip, or as one person said fund his return trip. The weather became hot as did the play. The food was great as always! Winners received special commemorative medals.
The tournament winners were:
1st Place Amine Najah & Don Jansky
2nd Place Kathy Ragan & Olivier Simondet
3rd Place Edward Vaissiere & Christophe Chambers
Anyone wanting to help support Amadeus can send a check made out to Cindy Alejandro to Kathy Ragan 10503 Brannon Cove, Austin, TX 78759
The Legation Boules Club is proud to announce the addition of two new members! Say hello to Becky Cortinez (pictures above) and Carl Deforest.

For those of you who haven’t heard, fellow Petanque player Jim Schwobel is in Normandy, France as part of the University of Texas Alumni band who are playing in the official D-Day celebrations.
To be selected to play in those celebrations is a terrific honor for the University of Texas and the Alumni Band. The Alumni Band has been working for over three years to participate in the D-Day events.
Following the D-Day celebrations, the band is also trying to arrange a concert for the people of Paris in front of the Notre Dame cathedral.
Our congratulations go to Jim Schwobel and the entire UT Alumni band. I’m sure he will have some great stories to share when he returns to the hangar.

Carousel Doublet Tournament
Sunday, June 9th, 2019
Tournament is at Nelson Ranch Park
905 Nelson Ranch Road
Cedar Park, TX 78613
It’s time for the annual French Legation benefit tournament! This a fun event giving everyone an opportunity for Petanque glory!
The tournament format is a carousel where you play with a new partner and new opponents every round. To make this event less intimidating and certainly more fun, we divide the players into two divisions: those with less experience and those with more experience.
For each round, the teams will consist of one less experienced player teamed with a more experienced player. Each player will play five games during the day. The top three players in each division will win a beautiful Petanque medal suitable for a place of honor in your home.
The tournament will be held at the Nelson Ranch Petanque Club.
The cost of the tournament is only $15 per person and all of the entry fees will go to the French Legation. Hopefully, at the tournament, we will have an update of the status of the Legation restoration work.
As usual, there will be a pot-luck luncheon after the third game. Sow whip up one of your favorite vittles and come join us for a festive day with some of the friendliest Petanque players in Texas.
There will be a Pot Luck Lunch, so please bring something to contribute!
