Come one, come all to celebrate French La Chandeleur on Sunday, Feb 18 at the Nelson Ranch pavilion and terrain. For whatever it’s worth, the long range weather forecast calls for a partly cloudy day with highs in the low 60s, so that’s not bad for mid-February. We will be celebrating with crepes and cidre (or other beverages of your choice) around 2:30 with pickup pétanque games both before and after.
|
Kathy is making about 24 gluten-free crepes for those who need them but we need a couple of additional people to make crepes. So, if you are able to help out by making a couple dozen crepes, it would be much appreciated. Please let us know if you can do this, so we can plan accordingly.
|
If you are planning to bring crepe filling that needs to be served hot, be aware that the Nelson Ranch pavilion has a very limited electrical power. We can usually accommodate a few crockpots to keep fillings warm, but not sufficient power to cook the fillings. So, if you will be bringing a crockpot to keep your filling hot, please let us know.

Hope to see y’all there. It should be a great day of pétanque and tasty goodies.

PS - Interesting factoid: Back in the good old days, before the Romans (Catholics) moved in and usurped age-old Gallic traditions, the ceremony named claimed as La Chandeleur was a Spring festival, and as with most ancient Spring festivals, fertility was a prominent component. It is said to this day, still, that should one drop a crepe while preparing for La Chandeleur, that one will be married within the year. So, just a heads up - if you notice Rudy dropping crepes at the pavilion, you may want to start calling him Randy. :)
